Beat the winter chill with a warm and cozy Hot Cocoa Party!
We’ve shared lots of fun ideas for this party theme over on the website, and recommended handing out these super cute little jars of homemade hot cocoa to your guests as party favors.
They’d also make great (and inexpensive) gifts for neighbors, teachers, and friends.
Here’s how to make them. You’ll need:
Small jars
2 cups nonfat dry milk
1 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup non-dairy creamer
Marshmallows, optional
Mini chocolate chips, optional
Crushed peppermint candies, optional
This amount of ingredients yielded 4 small jars for me. Adjust the amounts based on the number of jars you’d like to make.
Divide the amounts of each ingredient by the number of jars that you’ll be making and begin layering the ingredients in your jars using a funnel. Try to vary it a bit for visual interest.
I recommend that you sift the cocoa powder before you add it because it tends to be clumpy and makes a bumpy layer when unsifted.
Another tip, the cocoa powder leaves a “cloud” on the sides of the jars. Use a dry napkin or cotton swab to wipe down the sides of the jars before adding the next ingredients.
Keep layering ingredients until your jars are full, then top with marshmallows, chocolate chips, and/or peppermints.
You’ll end up with pretty little jars that look like this:
