Making the Best of Hurricane Irene

Let me just start off this post by saying that my heart goes out to all of those who were impacted by this storm.  The destruction that it left behind is just heartbreaking and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those still struggling to put the pieces of their homes, lives, and businesses back together again. We had some minor damage, but made out fairly well when you look at the big picture.  A wet basement, a broken window, and a limb through the roof were the biggies for us.  And we had a pretty big mess to clean up.  Our entire yard was covered in debris like this: dscn8203-8825838 But what happens when the clean up is all done? No power means no lights, no stove, no TV, no hot water, no internet {gasp!}.  The list goes on and on. Life as we know it ends.  But only kind of.  Because, if you’re the Passion-for-Parties girl, you’re gonna find some way to turn it into something to raise everyone’s spirits.  And so, a block party was born. I mean, if we’re gonna be without power, might as well be without power together, right? Our cul-de-sac turned into “party central,” filled with grills, tables and chairs, coolers, cornhole, neighbors and good times.  Here’s how it started out: dscn8250-7336445

Little by little more families showed up and it was a full-blown block party!  Such fun!

The younger kids had a blast playing in the yard,

While the older kids made the Jeep their hangout spot.

The guys took over the grills and served up everything from burgers and hot dogs to chicken and shrimp…

The girls took care of setting everything up and making sure everyone got fed…

And the little ones just ate up and had a great time.  🙂

It’s amazing how the community pulls together in situations like this.  Warms my heart!  🙂
